NFREU gears up for zonal committee and general council meeting in Jorhat

JORHAT, June 6: The 174th Zonal Working Committee and 105th General Council Meeting of the NF Railway Employees’ Union (NFREU) will be held at Mariani Railway Institute, Mariani, in Jorhat district from June 12 to 14.

A press note by the Furkating branch of NFREU informed that the general secretary of NFREU, Munindra Saikia, who is also the joint general secretary of the National Federation of Indian Railwaymen (NFIR), divisional secretary of Tinsukia division of the union, Devarshi M Neog, along with office-bearers and members of the zonal and divisional levels, are scheduled to attend the program.

At the three-day meet, several demands and grievances of the employees would be raised and discussed to be put before the concerned authorities for early fulfillment.

The key demands are: restoration of the Old Pension Scheme, reduction of patrolling beat length in the engineering department, reduction of duty hours to eight hours in all sections, filling up of all vacant posts immediately, and stopping the exploitation of employees in the name of optimum utilisation of manpower.

It may be mentioned here that the NFREU, affiliated to NFIR, INTUC, and London headquartered International Transport Federation (ITF), has always raised its voice against the exploitation of railway employees and for upholding their legitimate rights.
