NHM, Assam Observes International Day Against Drug Abuse Across The State

GUWAHATI, June 26: The International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking is to strengthen action and cooperation to achieve the goal of a society – free of drug abuse and illicit trafficking. In view of the objective, National Health Mission, Assam observed the day with various awareness activities across the State on Sunday.

Keshab Mahanta, minister of Health and Family Welfare Department, Assam was the chief guest at the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking observed at Golaghat district. Present in the event were Sarupathar MLA Biswajit Phukan, joint secretary of Health and Family Welfare department Jyotsna Medhi, additional secretary of Health and Family Welfare, deputy commissioner Golaghat, Mrigesh

Narayan Baruah, superintendent of police, Golaghat, Sumeet Sharma, joint director of Health Services, Dr. Arun Ch Mahanta, superintendent Swahid Kushal Konwar Civil Hospital Dr Surendranath Tamuli and many renowned personalities from different walks of life.

Keeping in view this year’s theme: “Addressing drug challenges in Health and Humanitarian crises”, NHM, Assam through the district health teams organised a series of activities to make people aware of drug abuse and illicit trafficking. The various activities include: drawing and painting competition, Miking (audio clippings in Assamese and local languages), streetplays, rallies, health screening camps among others, followed by prize distribution and felicitation to the winners.
