GUWAHATI, July 20: Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman is set to embark on a two-day visit to Assam and Tripura, starting from Friday, as per an official release.
During her visit to Guwahati, the finance minister will participate in an investiture ceremony where she will confer the Presidential Awards for Specially Distinguished Record of Service to officers and staff of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC).
The prestigious Presidential Award of Appreciation Certificate, announced on this year’s Republic Day, will be presented to 29 officers and staff of CBIC. These awardees have been selected for their exceptional performance and exemplary service in their respective fields over the years.
The awardees come from diverse cadres of the service and have consistently demonstrated distinction in their assignments, including activities such as combating smuggling, detecting tax evasion, identifying trade-based money laundering, and addressing foreign exchange violations. Additionally, their contributions to tax policy formulation, revenue mobilization, business process automation, and capacity building and training have been recognized.
The investiture ceremony will be attended by Union minister of state for finance Pankaj Chaudhary, revenue secretary Sanjay Malhotra, and CBIC chairman Vivek Johri.
Following the ceremony, the Union ministers will proceed to Tripura to attend the inauguration of the GST Bhavan at Agartala. The next day, they will visit the Integrated Check Posts at Srimantpur in Tripura, as mentioned in the official release.
