A low-pressure area forming over the Southeast Bay of Bengal around November 14 is driving the sudden rains, according to the RMC, Guwahati. This system is likely to move West-Northwestwards and intensify into a depression over the Westcentral Bay of Bengal by November 16.
RMC’s notification revealed that an upper air cyclonic circulation lies over the south Andaman Sea, extending up to middle-tropospheric levels and tilting southwestwards with height. This system is expected to influence the formation of the Low-Pressure Area over the Southeast Bay of Bengal in the next 24 hours.
Furthermore, it is likely to cause light to moderate rainfall at many places over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura, with isolated heavy rainfall over Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura on November 17 and 18, and over south Assam and east Meghalaya on November 17.
