Weather bureau warns of prolonged rainfall, thunderstorms across northeast

Guwahati, April 20: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light to moderate rain in several Northeastern states due to a cyclonic circulation over central Assam, now positioned over northeast Assam and extending 1.5 km above mean sea level.

This, along with a trough from east Bihar to the cyclonic circulation, is influencing the weather. Day 1’s forecast includes light to moderate rain in most parts of Arunachal Pradesh and many parts of Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura. Similar weather conditions will persist on Day 2.

On Day 3, many parts of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya will experience light to moderate rain, with a few places in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura also likely to have rain.

On Day 4 and Day 5, the focus will be on Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya, while isolated places in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura may also receive rain. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds up to 40-50 kmph may occur in isolated areas of Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Manipur on Day 1.

Arunachal Pradesh could experience thunderstorms, lightning and isolated heavy rain. Similar weather conditions with lower wind speed may occur in Mizoram and Tripura on Day 2. Thunderstorms are forecasted in isolated areas across all seven states on Day 3, with isolated heavy rain in Arunachal Pradesh.

On Day 4, thunderstorms with gusty winds are expected in isolated areas of Assam and Meghalaya. Arunachal Pradesh may experience heavy to very heavy rain and the remaining states may experience thunderstorms.
