The meeting began with a wreath-laying ceremony at the portrait of the recently deceased artist Zubeen Garg.

Speaking on behalf of the teachers of the undivided Sivasagar district, retired teacher Tarun Chandra Nath explained in detail how the government had deprived teachers of their rights after retirement and compelled them to depend on the New Pension Scheme (NPS).

The meeting was also attended by retired Headmaster Jagat Borthakur, who taught for 33 years without pay increments.

He said he had guided many students who went on to become doctors, engineers, and professors, yet could not provide higher education to his own children due to financial hardship.

The Forum urged the government to implement OPS instead of NPS and UPS for government employees.

Teachers Dinmani Bhuyan and Prashant Bora highlighted the adverse impact of NPS on their mental health and family well-being.

Professor Dhruvajyoti Barthakur stressed that employees should pursue their demands through proper government channels and remain united until a positive outcome is achieved.

Members Manik Chetia and Nripendranath Sharma demanded that all teachers regularised between 2013 and 2021 be brought under the old pension policy.
