KOKRAJHAR, April 30: With an objective to create an atmosphere of equal opportunity and all-around upliftment of the under-privileged girl students of nearby vicinity, NTPC has introduced the ‘Girl Empowerment Mission’ – GEM under its CSR initiative.

In order to assess the fitness of the students, NTPC Bongaigaon Salakati conducted a day-long medical examination camp at its premises on Wednesday.

NTPC Bongaigaon intends to conduct this 4-week residential programme during the summer vacation in the month of July, 2022 which is a four-week residential program for female students. More than 50 students (10-12 years) participated in the camp from 9 schools of nearby villages. NTPC officials also conducted the identification of the children, took the consent form from the parents and guardians and also initiated the measurement of the uniform/dress to be given to the school children.

The power station will conduct this flagship project of NTPC for empowerment of girl child for the first time at the station. NTPC aims to make every girl aware about essential education, health and self-defence programs. Girls will have tailor-made programmes covering basic communication skills in Hindi and English and elementary education in mathematics, hygiene and nutrition, yoga and sports, etc. To develop their social skills, talks on gender diversity issues, group activities, movie screening on social issues, cyber safety, music, dance, theatre, etc., will be organised.

The station has already conducted the baseline survey for the students earlier this month to access their knowledge levels.

Through this programme, NTPC aims at dispelling the misconceptions surrounding female foeticide across rural India and create a room for the children to showcase their talents and capabilities. NTPC as a part of the social responsibility has already been running and supporting several programs for the wellbeing of the society including empowerment of women, in various age brackets residing in the neighbourhood of its plants.

India’s largest power generating company, NTPC, to improve the lives of women and the girl child in the country has already benefited more than 2000 students in the second year of its flagship Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM) program under its CSR initiatives.
