NTPC Bongaigaon Hosts Quality Meet To Enhance Power Plant Equipment Quality

KOKRAJHAR, Nov 20: NTPC Bongaigaon, in collaboration with Corporate QA&I, organized a two-day Quality Meet 2023 on November 17 and 18, 2023, at NTPC Bongaigaon. The event aimed to discuss various issues, suggestions, and new initiatives related to quality assurance in power plant equipment supply and erection commissioning.

 

Manish Kumar Srivastava, ED (Engineering), graced the occasion and interacted with participants during the concluding session. He emphasized the significant role of Corporate QA and Field Quality Assurance (FQA) in maintaining quality within the organization. Srivastava highlighted that quality is the cornerstone of NTPC’s success and reaffirmed NTPC’s commitment to continuous improvement and the adoption of new tools and technologies to ensure quality in power plant equipment supply, erection, and commissioning. He encouraged participants to provide suggestions for quality improvement initiatives.

In the inaugural session, Karunakar Das, Business Unit Head, NTPC Bongaigaon, welcomed participants and stressed the importance of quality across various domains. He underscored the crucial role of FQA in ensuring site erection quality, aligning with NTPC’s core value of “Total Quality and Safety.”

B C Roy, GM (QA&I), highlighted the critical role of Field Quality and emphasized the need for a system-driven approach that undergoes continuous review and adaptation to keep pace with the ever-changing technical landscape. He stressed close coordination between Corporate and Field Quality executives and suggested close interaction with quality representatives of major NTPC suppliers to address various issues promptly.

 

The Quality Meet featured presentations from various NTPC stations, including a session by Satish Upadhyay, ED-Rammam, on “QA Practices in Civil Works of NTPC Projects” on November 17.

The event was attended by senior officials from NTPC Bongaigaon, including K C Muraleedharan, GM (O&M), A Biswas, GM (Operation), and Sanjay Pande, GM (FGD). The meet brought together QA representatives from various NTPC stations, along with representatives from Corporate Centre, IT, Vigilance, TS, presented physically, and participants from across NTPC stations through VC. External stakeholders such as M/s BHEL, M/s L&T-T&D, and M/s LMB were also invited to share their best practices in quality management.

 

The Quality Meet 2023, beyond discussions, included a cultural program based on the North East theme, showcasing in-house and local talents. The event aimed to reinforce the importance of quality as a core value and highlight the critical role of FQA in ensuring the highest standards of quality in NTPC’s projects and operations. NTPC Bongaigaon is a 750 MW coal-fired power plant located in Bongaigaon, Assam, India.
