NTPC Bongaigaon initiates dormitory project for Bodoland Silk Park

KOKRAJHAR, June 18: In a significant step towards community development, Sudip Nag, regional executive director (ER-I and ER-II), NTPC, laid the foundation stone for a new residential dormitory for reelers and weavers at Bodoland Silk Park, Department of Sericulture, Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) in Kokrajhar. This project, estimated to cost approximately Rs 50 lakhs, is part of NTPC Bongaigaon’s CSR initiative, demonstrating the company’s dedication to sustainable development and social responsibility.

During his maiden visit to NTPC Bongaigaon Salakati recently, Sudip Nag, along with Akhilesh Singh, business unit head, NTPC Bongaigaon, Onkar Nath, head of HR, NTPC Bongaigaon, and NTPC Bongaigaon officials, toured the Bodoland Silk Park in the presence of AK Chakrabarty, director of Sericulture, and representatives from BTC. The NTPC team was given an in-depth explanation of the silk-making process, from worm rearing to the weaving of finished products. Live demonstrations showcased the skills and dedication of the Silk Park workers.

At the foundation stone laying ceremony, Sudip Nag expressed his pride and gratitude for being part of this mission in partnership with the Department of Sericulture. He emphasised NTPC’s commitment to societal well-being beyond its core business. “This dormitory project is part of our goal to support approximately 10,000 reelers and weavers in the BTC region,” said Nag, thanking the Department of Sericulture for this collaborative effort.

Akhilesh Singh reiterated NTPC Bongaigaon’s focus on creating local employment, empowering women, and boosting income generation for the region’s residents. “Our initiatives aim to uplift the socio-economic status of the local community, and this dormitory is a crucial step in that direction,” he stated.

This initiative marks a significant milestone in NTPC’s journey towards inclusive growth and community development, highlighting the company’s commitment to sustainable development and corporate social responsibility.
