KOKRAJHAR, April 19: A residential dormitory for reelers and weavers at Bodoland Silk Park, Kokrajhar has been inaugurated under NTPC Bongaigaon’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme on Saturday.
The dormitory, aimed at supporting livelihoods in the Bodoland region, was inaugurated by Abha Jadli, Senior Member, Sanyukta Mahila Samiti, in the presence of Kasturi Maitra, President, Bardwi Shikla Ladies Club, Anjan Kr Chakraborty, Director, Bodoland Silk Park, and Soumya Kar, Vice President, Bardwi Shikla Ladies Club and office bearers of the club.

In her address, Jadli expressed her pride in being associated with this impactful initiative in partnership with the Department of Sericulture. She highlighted NTPC’s approach of going beyond profit to focus on people and the planet, reiterating that such collaborations reflect NTPC’s deeper commitment to nation-building. She also noted that this initiative was a part of a larger plan that seeks to benefit nearly 10,000 reelers and weavers across the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).
As part of her visit, Jadli also toured the sericulture unit, gaining firsthand insight into the weaving processes and appreciating the sustainable practices promoted in the region. She lauded NTPC’s continued efforts in empowering communities through such forward-looking and inclusive programmes.
Earlier, Jadli visited the Entrepreneurship and Skill Development Centre operated under the CSR wing of NTPC Bongaigaon in collaboration with the Bardwi Shikla Ladies Club and Tusti Foundation. She interacted with trainees, understood the process of sustainable product-making, and distributed umbrellas to support the skill development efforts of the participants.
The day also included a General Body Meeting at the Bardwi Shikla Ladies Club where Jadli addressed members and emphasized the growing role of Ladies Clubs in supporting CSR-led initiatives. She encouraged the members to strengthen their involvement in social, cultural, and developmental programmes within the township and nearby areas.
During the meeting, Kasturi Maitra, President of the Club, shared the range of initiatives being undertaken under the Awahan scheme—an umbrella programme of NTPC that focuses on mental wellness, social awareness, women empowerment, livelihood support, and cultural preservation. Maitra also spoke about ongoing skill development drives, health and hygiene awareness programmes, and support to self-help groups and family members, all of which are helping create a more inclusive and socially conscious township ecosystem.
