NTPC Bongaigaon organises management programme on strategic leadership

KOKRAJHAR, Jan 22: NTPC Bongaigaon, Salakati, organised a three-day Management Development Programme (MDP) on “Practicing Strategic Leadership” for its mid-level executives in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Shillong from January 19 to 21. The programme was aimed at strengthening leadership capabilities and equipping executives with contemporary tools and perspectives to address evolving organisational and people-centric challenges.

The programme was inaugurated by Arnab Maitra, Head of Project, NTPC Bongaigaon, who highlighted the importance of strategic leadership in today’s complex and dynamic work environment. He stated that such focused capacity-building initiatives play a crucial role in developing leaders who can effectively align NTPC’s organisational objectives with innovation, empathy and long-term sustainability.

The academic sessions were conducted by Dr Sitanshu Shekhar Das and Dr Priya Alat, Assistant Professors in Organisational Behaviour and Human Resources at IIM Shillong. The faculty members shared in-depth insights into contemporary leadership practices through the SMILE Framework, which emphasises Strategic thinking, Motivation levels, Innovation, Learning agility and Empathetic leadership. The sessions also addressed leadership approaches required for effectively managing and engaging Gen Z and Gen Alpha employees in increasingly complex and fast-paced work environments.

A total of 28 executives from various cross-functional domains of NTPC Bongaigaon participated in the programme, enabling rich peer learning and exchange of experiences. Participants presented case studies based on real-life workplace situations and actively interacted with the faculty to seek guidance on strategic decision-making, leadership challenges and effective people management. The programme provided valuable learning on the importance of listening in leadership, managing human capital and fostering a culture of trust, empathy and continuous learning. The interactive sessions reinforced NTPC Bongaigaon’s commitment to leadership development and continuous improvement as key drivers of organisational excellence.
