NYK Celebrates Panchayati Raj Day

Hamren, April 24: Celebration of Panchayati Raj Day was organised by Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK), Diphu, Karbi Anglong, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India at Mokindur LP School, Amreng, Zerikingding in West Karbi Anglong on Sunday.

The celebration was organised in collaboration with the Subaltern Development Club. On the occasion a training programme was organised for rural youths which was chaired by Sarkari Gaon Bura of Mokindur village, Sing Phura.

CEO of KAT Channel, Biren Enghee attended the celebration as the chief guest. Addressing the gathering Enghee spoke on the importance of the Panchayati Raj system. Vice-principal of Kapili College Jeetendra Harijan also addressed the youths present. He spoke on the history of Panchayati Raj Day and laid stress on the awareness about the panchayats and gram sabhas along with local self-governments in rural areas. Sarkari Gaon Bura Sing Phura in the presidential speech put more stress on the progress of the village and role and responsibility of the villagers. The training programme was also graced by ASHA worker Weni Ronghangpi; Sarkari Gaon Bura, Mohansing Engti; secretary, Subaltern Development Club, Sanjit Harijan, and former NYC, Dhanraj Harijan. More than 50 youths including mahilas and villagers of different clubs participated in the programme.
