Profulla Chandra Khaund, a renowned civil engineer and entrepreneur from Jorhat, breathed his last in Boston on Thursday.
Khaund was 91 and leaves behind his wife, two sons, a daughter and a host of relatives.
He matriculated in 1948 from Sankardev Seminary, Jorhat securing the 10th position and highest marks in English.
Khaund went on to study in Cotton College, Guwahati, and then BHU. He then obtained a BTech degree from IIT Kharagpur.
In 1955, he left for the US to pursue MTech in the University of Missouri. He started his career as an engineer in a civil engineering firm and rose to the position of president of the company in the US.
Thereafter, he started his own consulting firm and built upon a very successful business. Khaund was involved in designing many transportation and community projects in the New England region of the US.
He was one of the leading members of the Indian and Assamese community residing in the US and helped several Indian professionals begin their careers in that country.
