One killed, several injured as school bus overturns in Dima Hasao

HAFLONG, Jan 18: A 10-year-old student of class 3 lost her life, and several others were injured after a school bus overturned in the Dima Hasao district on Saturday, an official said.

The incident occurred between 8:00 and 8:30 AM near the 19 KM area under Umrangso Police Station in Dima Hasao district.

In an official statement, Debojit Borah, field officer of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), said that the student, identified as Dalimar Ronghangpi, died on the spot due to the impact.

“Six students sustained severe injuries and were immediately transported to Hojai Ham Hospital for urgent medical attention. The injured students are Arklingson Hanse, 9 years old; Felyha Chingthongpi, 10 years old; Sarmukrang Terang, 8 years old; Divya Ronghangpi, 15 years old; Ruplin Engtipi, 17 years old and Malyn Teronpi, 18 years old,” Borah added.

He further stated that 16 students suffered minor injuries. Some received medical attention, while others were treated on-site.

A thorough investigation is underway to determine the cause of the accident, and authorities are taking all necessary measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
