KOKRAJHAR, April 8: As per the order of Government of Assam, on Friday, a meeting was held under the chairmanship of deputy commissioner of Chirang Narendra Kumar Shah to distribute the cheques of financial assistance to the Rongali Bihu Udjapan Committees, Rongali Bwisagu Faligra Afat and Bishuwa Udjapan Committees of Chirang district in the conference hall of the deputy commissioner’s office at Kajalgaon.

During the meeting, Sidli MLA Jayanta Basumatary along with Chirang deputy commissioner Narendra Kumar Shah, superintendent of police Pranjit Borah, members of Council Legislative Assembly (MCLA) of Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Saikong Basumatary and Prabhat Basumatary ceremonially distributed cheques of one time financial assistance of Rs 1.5 lakh each to a total of 27 Rongali Bihu, Rongjali Bwisagu and Bishuwa celebration committees of the district, who have been organising bihu, bwisagu and bishuwa functions for more than ten years from Bohag 1 to Bohag 7 every year.
At the beginning of the meeting, Chirang DC Narendra Kumar Shah welcomed everyone and extended his bihu greetings to all. He said that Bihu was one the most important cultural festivals of Assam, which was closely associated with its rich and diverse culture. “Considering its importance, the government is providing financial assistance to the celebration committees so that the socio-cultural condition of the state can be promoted,” he added. He also informed about the criteria adopted during the selection of committees as laid down by the government.
Extending his advance Bihu greetings to all the members present, Sidli MLA Jayanta Basumatary hoped that the financial assistance provided by the state government would provide relief to the celebration committees. For this, he thanked chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and called upon all to celebrate the ensuing festival with tremendous zeal and enthusiasm.
Chirang superintendent of police Pranjit Borah appealed to the Bihu celebration committees to keep away from collection of donations from individuals, and also warned the general public against drunk driving during the festival.
He also informed about security arrangements to be made in every Bihu celebration venue across the district in order to ward off any untoward incident.
With this financial assistance, 8 Bihu Udjapan Committees, 12 Bwisagu Faligra Afat and 7 Bishuwa Udjapan Committees of Chirang district have benefitted.
The meeting was anchored by additional deputy commissioner Nirmali Baruah and was also attended by circle officers of Sidli, Bengtal and Bijni Revenue Circle and representatives of Bihu, Bwisagu and Bishuwa celebration committees.
