In a major boost for the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), more than 220 individuals from different political parties have joined the party in the 5 No Saraibil and 3 No Srirampur BTC constituencies under Gossaigaon Sub-Division of Kokrajhar district.

A special joining ceremony was held on July 6 at the BPF district office in Gossaigaon, where 120 people—previously associated with the BJP, Congress, and UPPL—officially joined the BPF.

The event was organised by Chakra Singh Borgoyari, Secretary of the BPF Block Committee, Saraibil.

Gossaigaon District BPF President Shobharam Basumatary addressed the gathering, stating that the BTR Accord was signed without adequately consulting all communities.

He emphasised that the BPF represents the collective interests of every ethnic and social group, and strongly criticised the eviction drives carried out under the UPPL-led administration.

He assured that if the BPF is voted back to power, such actions would be halted.

Speaking on the occasion, Nurul Haque, retired teacher and Vice President of the BPF District Committee, highlighted key welfare initiatives launched during the tenure of former BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary.

Former MCLA Mrithunjoy Narzary accused current MLA and BTC Chief Promod Boro of failing to deliver tangible development during his five-year term and credited Hagrama’s 17-year leadership for major strides in the region.

BPF Central Treasurer Dhruva Kumar Brahma Narzary launched a scathing attack on the UPPL, alleging that the party relies entirely on BJP support and has been targeting local communities through eviction notices.

He claimed that a return of the UPPL to power would lead to land being handed over to corporate entities like the Adani Group.

Rafiqul Islam, Central Organising Secretary of the BPF, echoed similar sentiments, accusing the BJP-UPPL alliance of targeting minorities, citing the alleged demolition of a tea estate owned by businessman Sattar Miah as an example.

In a separate rally held at Hawriapet village in the Srirampur constituency, over 100 men and women joined the BPF in the presence of party leaders including Rizwan Ahmed, Sahanara Khatun, Nazrul Islam Pramanik, and advocate Mafijur Rahman.

The influx of nearly 220 new members in a single day is being viewed as a significant boost to the BPF’s organisational strength ahead of the BTC elections.

Party leaders described the shift as a clear sign of public dissatisfaction with the present administration and a growing demand for an alternative political force.

In another joining programme held at Gurufela village under Saraibil constituency, an additional 40 individuals joined the BPF, further consolidating the party’s grassroots support.

Prominent leaders present at the series of joining events included Billa Kumar Brahma, Nazrul Islam Pramanik, Pragati Brahma, Mofida Begum, and Suchitra Brahma, all of whom reiterated the party’s commitment to inclusive development and community representation.
