MAIBANG, Feb 3: Minister for Water Resources, Pijush Hazarika, on Tuesday distributed seed capital cheques under the Chief Minister’s Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan and laid the foundation for five major road projects in Dima Hasao, marking a significant push for women empowerment and infrastructure development in the district.
Over 18,000 women beneficiaries received Rs 10,000 each, with eligibility for Rs 25,000 in the next phase upon productive utilisation. Minister Hazarika urged them to invest the funds in income-generating ventures to promote self-reliance and entrepreneurship.
The foundation stones were laid for five road projects spanning 120 km, estimated at Rs 997 crore with World Bank funding, aimed at improving connectivity and accelerating development. Hazarika highlighted Assam’s flagship welfare schemes, including Orunodoi, Nijut Moina and the Women Entrepreneurship Mission, noting their impact on women’s economic independence.
Later, he inaugurated a Rs 4 crore Bamboo Industrial Park at Manderdisa under the DHATC package to support bamboo-based enterprises and generate youth employment. The programme was attended by NCHAC CEM Debolal Gorlosa, MLA Jitu Goswami, Minister Nandita Gorlosa and other officials.
