Bodoland’s sporting spirit highlighted in ‘Mann Ki Baat’

KOKRAJHAR, June 29: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in the 123rd episode of his monthly radio programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’, made a special mention of Bodoland’s growing sports culture, lauding the region’s passion for football and the successful organisation of the Bodoland CEM Cup 2025.

The Prime Minister praised the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) for promoting sports as a means of empowerment and unity.

He referred to the ongoing Bodoland CEM Cup 2025, which commenced on June 14 across 420 Village Council Development Committees (VCDCs) in the region, with over 3,500 teams participating.

Modi acknowledged the remarkable enthusiasm shown by the youth and players, describing it as a celebration of sportsmanship and community spirit.

Highlighting Bodoland as a region with a new identity of peace, progress, and youth-led development, the Prime Minister appreciated the efforts made by the BTR government under the leadership of Chief Executive Member (CEM) Pramod Boro.

He commended the leadership for its proactive role in using sports as a tool for regional transformation.

PM Modi also acknowledged footballers from Bodoland who have earned national acclaim, including Halicharan Narzary, Durga Boro, Apurna Narzary, and Manbir Basumatary, attributing their success to the rising sporting culture among the youth of the region.

The mention by the Prime Minister has sparked widespread pride and excitement across the BTR districts, particularly among young people and sports enthusiasts.

Leaders and locals welcomed the recognition, noting that the BTR government has hosted several national and international football tournaments, further enhancing the region’s sports landscape.

CEM Pramod Boro expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for highlighting the Bodoland CEM Cup and the efforts of the youth.

Recalling Modi’s visit to Bodoland on February 7, 2020, Boro stated that the Prime Minister had laid the foundation of peace and development in the region during that visit.

He remarked that the overwhelming response to the Bodoland CEM Cup, with thousands of teams taking part, reflected the transformative impact of sports in uniting and inspiring the people of Bodoland.

“Hon’ble PM Shri Narendra Modi ji, your visit to Bodoland on 7th Feb 2020 laid the foundation of peace and development in our region. Today, as you spoke about football, the Bodoland CEM Cup, and the spirit of our youth in Mann Ki Baat, we are filled with pride and gratitude. Bodoland is marching ahead—thanks to your vision and blessings,” Boro stated.
