Poetry Envisages Endangered Languages To Thrive

BISWANATH CHARIALI, March 21: World Poetry Day- 2023 was observed at Tyagbir Hem Baruah College on Tuesday under the initiatives of the Tridhara, a literary forum of the college in collaboration with the IQAC and Alumni Association of the college.

The programme, which was presided over by Dr Anju Chhetri, vice-principal was inaugurated by the secretary of Tridhara, Dr Khanjan Kumar Das. He elucidating the significance of poetry told how poetry occupies an important place in our life.

Bandana Pradhan, a student of the college speaking on the occasion explained the objectives of the day, which was founded by the UNESCO in 1999 with the aim of supporting linguistic diversity through poetic expression and increasing the opportunity for endangered languages to be heard.

Its purpose is to promote the reading, writing, publishing, and teaching of poetry and to give fresh recognition and impetus to national, regional, and international poetry movements. Dr Ajit Hazarika, principal of the college in his remarks narrated his experience of exploring the wonderful world of poetry and often getting lost in the terrain of meanings.

Dr Rantu Dutta, assistant professor from the department of Assamese and a renowned poet also spoke on the occasion and threw light on the heritage of poetry which is the oldest form of literature that predates even origin of writing itself. He also recited some self composed poems. Other students and teachers of the college who spoke and recited poems on the occasion are Dr. Rajlakshmi Basumatary, Ms. Chabi Rani Das, Dr Tilak Sarmah, Barsha Das, Pragyandeep Borah, Parismita Devi, Bandita Devi and Lucky Kumar.
