KOKRAJHAR, Nov 7: The election campaign for the Sidli LAC by-election, scheduled for November 13, has gained significant momentum, with major political parties, including the ruling United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), actively participating.
Three candidates are in the fray for the Sidli constituency, along with four other assembly constituencies in Assam. This by-election in Sidli LAC is set to witness a triangular contest between Nirmal Kumar Brahma of the UPPL, Sanjib Wary of the Congress, and Suddha Kumar Basumatary of the BPF.
Nearly 217,000 voters will cast their ballots in 273 polling stations across the Sidli constituency in Chirang district on November 13. The district administration and election authorities have made all necessary arrangements to ensure a free and fair election.
On Thursday, Pramod Boro, the chief executive member of the Bodoland Territorial Region and UPPL president, along with state cabinet minister Dr Ranoj Pegu and other UPPL and NDA alliance leaders, addressed a well-attended election campaign meeting at Malivita Bazar, Anando Betini, and Koila Moila in support of UPPL candidate Nirmal Kumar Brahma, backed by the NDA alliance.
A large crowd of party leaders, workers, and well-wishers from Nishima block participated in the meeting and pledged their support for the UPPL candidate. Hundreds of new members from various political parties, including the BPF, joined the UPPL during the campaign, showcasing a groundswell of support for the UPPL and NDA alliance. The newly joined members were warmly welcomed and felicitated by the UPPL.
CEM Pramod Boro emphasised that people from all sections of the community have shown faith in the UPPL under the NDA alliance, expressing that Sidli LAC has chosen the UPPL+BJP+AGP alliance. He noted that the BTR and Assam governments have worked tirelessly for the welfare and upliftment of citizens since their inception, achieving significant development across the Bodoland region.
Expressing confidence, Boro stated that the UPPL candidate Nirmal Kumar Brahma, backed by the NDA alliance, is on track for a victory, thanks to the overwhelming support from the people. He added that all five NDA alliance candidates contesting across Assam are likely to emerge victorious in the by-elections.
“I addressed the election campaign for the upcoming Sidli (ST) LAC by-elections at Malivita Bazar and Anando Betini. Cabinet minister Ranoj Pegu joined us at Malivita, along with senior leaders of our alliance. During the program, I welcomed new members who joined our UPPL family. The overwhelming love and support from the people show that our alliance is on the path to a historic victory in the bypolls,” Boro said.
In response to questions about remarks from the Opposition, Boro dismissed allegations made by Hagrama Mohilary, the former chief of BTC, suggesting that Mohilary and the BPF party have lost their base among citizens and are making baseless accusations against the BTR government. Boro added that the Bodoland region has now achieved lasting peace and harmony among its citizens.
Minister Ranoj Pegu stated that the UPPL candidate, backed by the NDA alliance in Sidli LAC, is likely to secure a significant victory in the November 13 by-election. He commented that the Opposition parties, BPF and Congress, are struggling to gain traction among the public. He reiterated that the NDA government, both at the center, state, and in the BTR, is working collectively towards the welfare and development of the people.
Meanwhile, several senior Congress leaders, including Assam Pradesh Congress Committee’s Bhupen Borah and Congress MLA Jakir Hussain Sikdar, campaigned in support of Congress candidate Sanjib Wary at different locations in Sidli LAC. BPF president Hagrama Mohilary and his party leaders also held several election campaign meetings in the Salakati area under Sidli LAC.
