UPPL holds press conference in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR, March 6: A press conference was held by the UPPL in Kokrajhar. The press meet, organised on Friday afternoon at the party’s central office, was addressed by UPPL Central General Secretary Raju Kumar Narzary.

Raju Kumar Narzary commented on the Rajya Sabha election and thanked the MLAs of AGP, Congress and AIUDF for supporting UPPL president Pramod Boro in the Rajya Sabha election.

At the same time, he also expressed gratitude to the BJP and Congress MLAs for their support. He said that it is a historic moment for the Bodo community.

For the first time, the Bodo community has been able to get three Members of Parliament.

He further stated that through the 125th Constitutional Amendment, the number of council constituencies in BTR could be increased from 40 to 60 and through the amendment related to Article 282, direct funding from the Centre to BTR could be ensured. These matters can be logically presented on the floor of the Parliament.

He said that getting three MPs from UPPL has created history for the Bodo community.

Narzary also informed that the list of UPPL candidates for 15 Assembly constituencies has already been prepared. The party is likely to announce the list of Assembly candidates within the next week.

He further stated in the press conference that apart from the 15 Assembly constituencies within BTC, the party is also considering fielding candidates in six Assembly constituencies outside BTC in the upcoming Assembly elections.

A festive atmosphere was seen at the central headquarters of the UPPL party in Kokrajhar following the unopposed victory to the Rajya Sabha seat.

On this occasion, UPPL leaders and party workers gathered at Thanapara in Kokrajhar town and accorded a grand welcome to UPPL president Pramod Boro with firecrackers, fireworks and a band party.

After being elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha, Boro expressed his gratitude to the UPPL MLAs as well as MLAs from other parties for their support. He said that as a Member of Parliament, he will work with commitment for the development of Assam and the entire Northeast region.

He also stated that he will give priority to the passing of the 125th Constitutional Amendment Bill and strengthening the Sixth Schedule areas.
