TEZPUR, April 17: In view of maintaining peace and public harmony during the conduct of Panchayat Election 2025, for which the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) is currently in force throughout the district and as preventive measures to avoid obstruction, injury to human life, and breach of peace District magistrate Ankur Bharali has issued a prohibitory order under Section 163 of the BNSS, 2023 in entire jurisdiction of Sonitpur District, effective immediately and until further notice.
Accordingly, assembly of five (5) or more persons in public places without prior written permission is strictly prohibited. Processions, rallies, or protests, shall not be held without prior permission from the District Administration. Use of slogans, placards, or speeches that may incite communal disharmony or disturb public tranquillity is strictly forbidden. Carrying of arms, sticks, or any offensive weapons in public places is banned during this period. Use of loudspeakers or public address systems without valid permission is prohibited. Social media content that could provoke public unrest shall be monitored; spreading misinformation or inciting messages shall attract legal action under applicable laws.
It is to be noted that this order shall not apply to Law enforcement and government officials on duty, emergency services (ambulance, fire brigade, etc.), religious/cultural ceremonies including Bihu Programme conducted within premises with prior permission. Any person found violating this order shall be liable for prosecution under Section 223 of the BNSS, 2023, and other relevant provisions of law. The notification issued on 5th April 2025 further states that the order shall remain in force for sixty (60) days.
