MORIGAON, July 28: The Assam Nath-Sahitya Sanskriti Sanmilon, led by its president Lakshya Jyoti Nath and general secretary Jitumoni Nath, staged a protest rally across the town opposing the demand of Assam State BJP to reserve Morigaon constituency for ST.
In a statement, the ethnic organisation expressed strong opposition to the unethical demand made by Assam State BJP before the Election Commission of India on July 20, 2023, to reserve Morigaon constituency for ST. The organisation argued that the constituency is home to various communities, including Nath-Yogi (18%), Religious Minority (24%), Koch (13%), SC (9%), Kalita (10%), and Brahmin (3%), making it a diverse representation of different groups.
Furthermore, the organisation vehemently objected to the exclusion of two revenue villages – Borigaon and Rangadaria under Rangadaria Gaon Panchayat, Solmari Mikirgaon village under Solmari GP – from Morigaon constituency. They urged the Election Commission of India to reinstate these villages within the boundaries of Morigaon constituency. The protest rally aimed to voice the community’s concerns and stand against the reservation demand put forth by Assam State BJP.
