DIPHU, Dec 3: In a move to promote community health and animal welfare, a Rabies Awareness Programme was held at DAV School, Diphu, on Wednesday morning. The event, organised jointly by the Diphu Municipal Board and the Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Department, began at 9:30 AM and witnessed participation from around 400 students.
Key officials overseeing the programme included Dr David Bordoloi Nodal Officer of the Rabies Control Programme, Dr Monica Tissopi Veterinary Officer, Diphu, Prodeep Rongpi Executive Engineer, Diphu Municipal Board and Menaka Terangpi Junior Engineer, Diphu Municipal Board.
The programme was conducted under the theme, “Protect Your Pets, Protect Your Community,” emphasising responsible pet ownership, timely anti-rabies vaccinations for dogs and cats and proper action in case of an animal bite. The initiative also aligns with nationwide efforts following the Supreme Court’s Suo Moto Writ Petition (Civil) No 05/2025 addressing rabies prevention and stray animal management.
Officials highlighted the importance of educating the younger generation to spread awareness throughout the wider community. The camp at DAV School is part of an ongoing effort by the Diphu Municipal Board and the Veterinary Department to ensure a safer and healthier environment for both humans and animals in the region.
