Morigaon, Nov 14
Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Morigaon has initiated strong disciplinary measures after 11 junior students were injured in a violent ragging incident inside the school on November 5. The clash occurred when senior students allegedly confronted the juniors for refusing to give them essential items, leading to a brutal assault that prompted the police to arrange immediate medical check-ups for the victims.
Following complaints filed by the injured students and their parents, the Morigaon District Administration formed an inquiry committee under the direction of District Commissioner Anamika Tewari. The panel, which included an executive magistrate, a police officer and two representatives from the regional office in Shillong, recorded statements from students, teachers and parents before submitting a detailed report to the administration, which was then forwarded to the Shillong office.
Acting on the findings, the JNV authorities expelled nine senior students from the Morigaon campus and transferred them to other JNV schools across Assam. Their parents were asked to submit written pledges ensuring that their children would not repeat such behaviour.
The district administration also suspended chemistry teacher Biswajit Chaudhary for alleged negligence and transferred Vice-Principal Dhrubajyoti Sarma to PM SHRI School JNV, Mukakseleng in Nagaland. All teachers have now been instructed to strictly perform house-master duties, with a clear warning of departmental action if similar negligence occurs again.
Officials said these steps aim to restore discipline on campus and ensure a safer environment for students living in residential schools. The district administration expressed satisfaction over the prompt action and hoped it would help prevent further incidents of ragging in the future.
