Despite teaching from Higher Secondary first year to postgraduate level in her department, Basumatari also pursued postgraduate studies in Mass Communication and Journalism and was able to impress the college with such a result by making proper use of her spare time.

Earlier, Basumatari completed her Ph. D degree from Gauhati University under the guide ship of Dr Gahan Chandra Mahanta on ‘The Creative Works of Troilokyo Bhattacharya in the Light of Historical and Mythological Aspects’

The achievement of Basumatari is an example of how age or busyness is not an obstacle for learning. She has gained appreciation among the intellectual community for her diligence and hard work despite her regular teaching in an important department like English.

Basumatari was felicitated for her achievement at a function organized by the Krishna Kanta Handique State Open University Study Center at Tyagbir Hem Baruah College on Wednesday.
