MARGHERITA, Feb 26: The Indian Red Cross Society, Margherita Sub-District Branch, a leading humanitarian voluntary organisation in Tinsukia district, organised a mega free medical camp along with an awareness and screening camp for oral cavity, cervical and breast cancer at Panbari Auditorium in Digboi on Thursday.
Pabitra Borgohain, Secretary of the Tinsukia District Committee, said the initiative aims to educate the public about cancer causes, symptoms and treatments, while promoting overall health. The awareness meeting was chaired by retired teacher Rajib Borpatragohain with distinguished guests including Digboi MLA Suren Phukan, educationist Joy Chandra Baruah, social worker Ganesh Handique and Bhabani Borpatragohain.
The Assam Cancer Care Foundation (Tinsukia unit) and The Hans Foundation collaborated in the screening camp, where specialist doctors and medical workers conducted health check-ups. Services included cancer screening, general disease treatment, gynaecological and obstetric care, paediatric services and eye care. Over 300 local residents received treatment and free medicines during the two-day programme, with support from Apeksha Hospital.
