GUWAHATI, April 3: New Bongaigaon workshop under Northeast Frontier Railway successfully completed several key initiatives in March 2025, strengthening its commitment to efficiency, quality, and modernisation in railway operations, said an official statement on Thursday.
The workshop has achieved 100% compliance with all modifications recommended by the Railway Board, RDSO, and NFR HQ, maintaining thorough records for enhanced efficiency and future reference, it added.
The old Carriage Lifting Shop was vacated and transferred to the Engineering Department for flooring work after relocating ICF coaches to the newly established LHB Corrosion Repair Shop.
Meanwhile, shower testing of covered wagons has begun to identify roof leaks, improving the reliability and durability of rolling stock.
In a notable step towards enhancing both aesthetics and longevity, vinyl wrapping was applied to an LHB 2-Tier AC coach as an alternative to conventional painting.
Additionally, a tender process is in progress to vinyl-wrap 125 more coaches within the next two months.
As part of coaching activities, a total of 77 coaches underwent successful Periodical Overhauling (POH) across different categories, including ICF, LHB, DEMU, and SPART.
Additionally, trolley dispatches comprised 35 coach sets for SS1 and 65.50 coach sets for IOH ICF, facilitating seamless operations across divisions.
The NBQ workshop successfully rolled out 145 wagons in March 2025.
Additionally, three wagons were upgraded to the Twin Pipe Air Brake system, bringing the cumulative total for 2024-25 to 253.
“Notably, all wagons turned out from NBQS are now fully equipped with this system, ensuring complete compliance,” the statement said.
During the month, modifications were carried out on 10 wagons for door height reduction and door blocking, contributing to a cumulative total of 122 in 2024-25 and an overall count of 291.
“Furthermore, 23 items, including two trade failure items and 21 miscellaneous components, were manufactured in-house to support production targets,” the statement further said.
To reduce rolling stock detention, the NBQ workshop supplied 279 pairs of wheel sets to various divisions, including 118 for BCN, 100 for LHB, 39 for ICF, 18 for DSL, and 4 for SPL ICF.
Additionally, scrap disposal efforts played a crucial role in resource optimization, with approximately 634.218 MT of ferrous scrap and 29.405 MT of non-ferrous scrap deposited in stores.
These accomplishments underscore the NBQ workshop’s ongoing commitment to operational excellence, modernisation, and efficiency in railway maintenance and manufacturing, the statement concluded.
