Rongjali Bwisagu Pwrbw celebrated at South Aflagaon

KOKRAJHAR, April 18: The celebration of the second Rongjali Bwisagu Pwrbw concluded on Friday being held at South Aflagaon playground in Kokrajhar district with two- day colourful programmes with traditional attires.

The celebration was organized by the observance committee in association with villagers of the South Aflagaon village.

There have been competitions on traditional Bwisagu dance, indigenous sports and literature for the young children and elders. The Bwisagu usually is not staged at South Aflagaon but since time immemorial the villagers used to celebrate the Bwisagu visiting one home to another sharing love, respect and strengthening the bond of unity and brotherhood. 

The villagers offer home prepared rice wine and meat to the dance troupes and visitors. Before starting of Bwisagu songs and dance the young take blessings from the elders. 

In the Bwisagu dance competition, Diljit Basumatary was adjusted as the “Bwisagu Khungur” and he was crowned by Assistant Teacher of Kokrajhar Govt HS&MP School Rashmi Basumatary while Miss Rathika Basumatary crowned as the “Bwisagi Khungri” and the award was given away by Naba Kr Basumatary, Medical officer in the Health Services, Kokrajhar. The prizes of the winner of Bwisagu group dance, debate and tug of war competitions were given away by dignitaries- Iswar Chandra Narzary, Rashmi Basumatary, Aditya Narzary, Shivaram Narzary and Devaraj Brahma while Head Mistress of Titaguri High School Kanchan Basumatary graced the prize distribution ceremony as the chief guest.

In her address, she called upon the villagers not to get distracted from the origin of Bwisagu songs and dance. She also called upon everyone to stop collecting money from the business establishments and individuals but to uphold the unity and integrity keeping the basic character of Bwisagu and its significance.

The prize distribution ceremony was presided over by the president of the Organizing Committee Sujit Basumatary. On the 1st day, the flag of the Organizing Committee was hoisted by president Sujit Kr Basumatary while flag of Bitgorai Club-cum- Library was hoisted by the president of the club Upen Goyary.
