GUWAHATI, Oct 1: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway in its endeavour to fight against transportation of contraband goods in trains, has recovered contraband goods worth more than Rs 1.72 crore and apprehended one person between September 27 and 29, 2022. The contraband items specifically consisted of ganja & brown sugar that were recovered from unclaimed bags during regular checks and drives at various stations and trains over NF Railway.
In an incident on September 27, 2022, RPF team of Guwahati conducted a drive in train no. 20501 DN (Agartala – Anand Vihar Terminal Tejas Express) at Guwahati Railway Station. In the course of the drive, they seized 1 unclaimed trunk from a coach and recovered 12 kg of ganja valued about Rs 1.2 lakh from the said train. The recovered bag was later handed over to OC/GRP/Guwahati for further course of action.
In another incident on the same day, the RPF team of Kamakhya while checking at Kamakhya Railway Station recovered a backpack containing about 31 kg of ganja worth Rs 3.19 lakh. Later the recovered ganja was handed over to Narcotics Control Bureau/Guwahati for further course of action.
In a recent incident on Thursday, acting on an information RPF team of Lumding and Tinsukia conducted a search in the train no. 15960 (Kamrup Express) at Lumding Railway Station. During the search a suspected person was found with a bag. On opening the bag, 421.86 gram of brown sugar valued about Rs 1.68 crore was recovered. The recovered brown sugar along with the apprehended person was later handed over to OC/GRP/Lumding for further course of action.
It may be mentioned here that RPF of NF Railway towards their objective of a drug free country are constantly vigil towards activities related to smuggling and transportation of contraband items at various railway stations and trains.
