RPF of NFR seizes contraband worth over Rs 1.42 crore in Oct

GUWAHATI, Nov 17: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of NF Railway is regularly conducting checks and drives at stations and on trains to control the transportation of contraband items. In recently conducted checks and drives over the zone from November 1 to 15, 2024, the RPF apprehended three persons and recovered contraband goods worth over Rs 11.14 lakhs from them.

It may be mentioned here that the RPF of NF Railway recovered contraband goods/narcotics items worth over Rs 1.42 crores and apprehended 28 persons during various checks and drives conducted over the zone in October 2024. 

In a recent incident on November 8, 2024, RPF and GRP teams of Agartala jointly conducted a check at Agartala station. During the check, the team recovered 10 kgs of ganja worth around Rs 1 lakh and apprehended one person in this connection. Later, the apprehended person, along with the recovered ganja, was handed over to OC/GRP/Agartala for further action. 

In another incident on November 11, 2024, the CIB team of RPF Guwahati apprehended two persons at Guwahati Railway Station and recovered 55 bottles of liquor worth over Rs 10,000. Later, the apprehended persons, along with the recovered liquor, were handed over to the Excise Department, Guwahati, for further necessary action. 

The RPF of NF Railway regularly undertakes several measures to prevent the use of railways by drug traffickers. RPF teams at various levels conduct frequent drives and checks on all suspected trains, stations, and passenger areas to ensure the railways remain free from drug trafficking. Railway passengers can dial 139 (toll-free) if they encounter any problems during their train journey.
