GUWAHATI, Oct 6: In a series of intensified operations against smuggling, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) recovered approximately 196 kg of ganja valued at over Rs 19.69 lakh between September 25 and October 2. Two women were also apprehended in connection with the smuggling.
On October 1, the RPF seized 14.1 kg of ganja in two separate operations. At Dimapur Railway Station, 10 kg of ganja worth Rs 1 lakh was recovered, while another 4.1 kg valued at Rs 41,000 was seized from Train No 13174 DN at New Coochbehar Railway Station by the CPDS team of RPF/Alipurduar Junction. The contraband was treated as unclaimed and handed over to respective GRP units.

Earlier, on September 30, the RPF team at Agartala recovered 31 kg of unclaimed ganja worth Rs 3.10 lakh from the station yard. The seizure was handed over to GRP Agartala, and a case was registered under Section 106.
On September 25, a joint operation by RPF and GRP at Badarpur led to the seizure of 26.445 kg of ganja worth Rs 2.64 lakh from two women passengers aboard Train No 12508 (Silchar–Thiruvananthapuram Central Express). The women were detained, and the seized contraband was handed over to GRP/Badarpur for legal action.
The RPF of NF Railway reiterated its commitment to combating smuggling, theft, and human trafficking while ensuring passenger safety. Rail users are urged to report suspicious activities by dialing the toll-free helpline number 139.
