MARGHERITA, Feb 18: Srimanta Sankardev Sangha Margherita sub-divisional branch on Tuesday has filed police complaint against Tai Ahom Yuba Parishad Asom (TAYPA) for allegedly burning the copy of the constitution of the Sangha.
Members of TAYPA allegedly burnt the copy of the constitution on Monday at Sonari in Charaideo.
The TAYPA allegedly burnt the constitution following expulsion of Sangha’s member Chandra Baruah. Baruah took part in the Me-Dam- Me- Phi celebration which had irked Sangha resulting in his expulsion.
Sangha has condemned the incident and demanded disciplinary action against the TAYPA members involved in the incident.
Bhadeswar Chutia president of Margherita sub divisional branch Srimanta Sankardev Sangha said that Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev a social reformer, artist and spiritual guide among other titles made immense contribution towards the development of Assamese culture. The Mahapurush founded the neo-Vaishnavite movement known as Ekasarana Dharma which has spread across the world but unfortunately the burning of constitution has hart sentiments.”
