Sarbananda Sonowal confers ‘Son of the Soil Awards Assam 2025’

Union minister praises awardees, urges citizens to contribute to nation-building

TEZPUR, Nov 16: Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal attended a special award presentation ceremony organised by Care Luit on Saturday evening and conferred the fifth biennial Son of the Soil Awards Assam 2025, honouring distinguished personalities and emerging talents from diverse fields.

Congratulating the awardees, Sonowal said sincere and dedicated work gives life true meaning. “Good deeds remain immortal and celebrating them inspires others,” he said. He stressed that Assam’s great visionaries have enriched national life, urging everyone to strive for a strong and prosperous state by upholding the ideals of their predecessors.

Paying tribute to Tezpur’s cultural icons Rupkonwar Jyotiprasad Agarwala, Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha and Natasurya Phani Sarma, the minister said their contributions shaped Assamese literature and culture. He expressed hope that Tezpur’s intellectual legacy would continue to fuel new creative pursuits. Sonowal also highlighted the region’s ongoing development under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and urged citizens to contribute to nation-building during the Amrit Kaal.

Care Luit presented Lifetime Achievement Awards to Arun Nath (Art & Culture), Ravi Shankar Ravi (Media), Moinuddin Ahmed (Sports), Lakhimi Baruah (Entrepreneurship) and Simanta Das (Public Service). Emerging talents honoured included Sukrita Baruah (Media & Communication), Sanghamitra Kalita (Entrepreneurship), Isharani Baruah (Sports), Himjyoti Talukdar (Art & Culture) and Dr Devyani Bora (Conservation). Dr Alka Sharma and Akshar Foundation received the Social Sector Development Award for contributions to education and social upliftment.

Established in 2016, Care Luit has been recognising individuals and organisations whose dedication, creativity and excellence enrich Assam’s cultural and social landscape. The event was attended by Cabinet Minister Ashok Singhal, MLA Prithiraj Rava, Amtron Vice-Chairman Ritubaran Sarma and other prominent personalities.

The programme opened with a rendition of Ganesh Vandana by Pinky Banerjee and singer Joy Baruah later captivated the audience, accompanied by vocalist Kalyan Baruah.
