Second bridge over Brahmaputra in Tezpur to be opened for public from Nov 1

Tezpur, Oct 29: Public will be permitted to use the second bridge over the mighty Brahmaputra in Tezpur newly constructed alongside the Kolia Bhomora Bridge from November 1 before one month of its formal inauguration.

In a press meet DC, Sonitpur, Deba Kumar Mishra and DGM, NHIDCL, Vivek Joshi said on Friday evening. It was said in the press meet that the old Kalia Bhomora bridge over the Brahmaputra will be closed for repair/ maintenance work and the newly-constructed bridge will be temporarily opened for traffic ahead of the formal inauguration of the new bridge. The bridge would be formally inaugurated after November or December, they added.

The  authority concerned is taking steps to repair the same and its work will start from November 1 accordingly the route will be diverted to the new bridge from November 1 allowing the common public to use it.

It is to be mentioned here that in the last few years many accidents have occurred over this bridge due its dilapidated condition and many other reasons.

Deba Kumar Mishra, DC, Sonitpur also informed that the Chowkighat Bridge over the river Jiabharali would be inaugurated in August 2023.

A one-minute silence was also observed by all NHIDCL officials and media persons to pray for the departed soul of eminent artist Neelpawan Baruah.
