MARGHERITA, Aug 11: Segunbari Tea Estate in Margherita, Tinsukia district, has become the first tea estate in Assam to declare a 20% bonus for its workers for the financial year 2024-25.
The decision was reached following a meeting between the Segunbari Tea Estate management and the Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha (ACMS) Margherita branch, led by its secretary, Hari Nanda Gorh.
The meeting, held on Monday at the manager’s office of the Segunbari Tea Estate, focused on ensuring fair and timely compensation for the workers.
After discussions, the management announced that the 20% bonus will be disbursed in two instalments.
The first instalment of 13% will be paid before this year’s Durga Puja, while the remaining 7% will be disbursed before the Holi festival in 2026.
The announcement has been welcomed by workers and their families.
ACMS Margherita branch expressed satisfaction with the outcome, terming it an important step in fostering harmony and goodwill between management and workers.
The move by Segunbari Tea Estate is expected to inspire other estates across Assam to follow suit, setting a benchmark for worker welfare in the tea industry.
