TEZPUR, April 4: As part of the Women’s Safety Accelerator Fund (WSAF) project SeSTA, a non-government organisation in collaboration with the Harchura Tea Estate near Balipra area here organised an awareness programme among the women workers of the tea garden on Sunday aiming at creating awareness on domestic violence and other issues often witnessed in the garden environment. Dignitaries who took part in the event were Priyanka Saikia, judicial magistrate, District Legal Services Authority and Priya Gupta and Musfika Sultana from special cell of office of the superintendent of police, Sonitpur district.
The trio dignitaries attending the event as special resource persons spoke on ways to eradicate domestic violence from the tea garden areas and discussed how it stands as a hindrance in front of the developmental aspects and peaceful environment of a family. Urging the participants to avoid every possible violence which is usually witnessed in a tea garden family, Priyanka Saikia, judicial magistrate, District Legal Services Authority mentioned that there are many ways to get legal aid, if required. Echoing the same sentiment, other two resource persons present in the programme, namely Priya Gupta and Mufika Sultana from special cell of office of the superintendent of police, Sonitpur district mentioned that avoiding such negative issues which is faced quite often by the families in the tea garden areas is necessary. They should try to build a conducive environment that will help in the development of the children of the area.
