DIPHU, Nov 30: For better opportunities in higher education the All Assam Students Union (AASU), Karbi Anglong district committee has demanded for setting up of a Science and Commerce college and a State university in Karbi Anglong by the State Government.
The AASU, KADC held its executive committee meeting at Diphu Club here on Wednesday, where 60 members from 14 regional committees participated in the meeting. In the meeting the AASU, KADC has felicitated Shorjun Hanse and Arnab Jyoti Kakoti for being appointed as assistant general secretary and executive member in AASU, central committee. They were inducted in the central committee in the AASU general conference held on 19th to 21st November at Lakhimpur.

For the improvement of higher education we are demanding the State Government for the setting up of a State university as well as Science and Commerce colleges.”
Hanse also said that the ITI and Polytechnic in Diphu are not functional properly with several trades being abolished. The ITI started at Kuligaon is half done. The place has now turned into a dense jungle. The State Government should revive these institutions for local students benefit. Also the Diphu Medical College & Hospital is functioning without sufficient equipment. Patients have to go outside for better treatment. The State Government should provide equipment and machinery for the medical college.
He also said various syndicates are operating in the district. These syndicates are run through the patronage of some powerful people. HAD minister Jogen Mohan has said that coal mining will be legalised, but this has not been done now. Using the challan of Umrangso coal mines and coal trucks with about 8 tones coming from Umrangso on reaching Karbi Anglong is loaded with another 10 to 15 tones. The overloaded coal trucks are being reached to various destinations. The KAAC authority and State Government should stop coal and other syndicates, Hanse said.
The AASU also demanded for absorption of local skilled and unskilled labourers in CCI Bokajan cement factory.
