Silchar, May 14: Silchar MP Dr. Rajdeep Roy, urged the people to refrain from spreading rumours regarding the construction of greenfield airport in Cachar district’s Doloo (Dolu tea estate).

Notably, Dr. Roy took to social media and assured that none would be evicted from their homes in Doloo, Moynargarh and Lalbagh tea estates.

“The interest of the workers of Doloo TE is paramount for us and there will be no job cuts. The disbursement of payments in the form of gratuity and provident fund has already been started. This is not an eviction drive. It is only a land acquisition process, which is going on for an important infrastructural project in Barak Valley that has been neglected for a long time. Unfortunately, people with vested interest are trying to bring disrepute to the noble initiative of the government,” he stated.

Dr. Roy, further nullified all the accusations against the Government and the district administration of Cachar regarding the airport. Rubbishing all charges against Cachar DC, Keerthi Jalli and SP Dr Ramandeep Kaur, Dr Roy said that this is nothing but fable of a sick mind. They have carried out their responsibilities in an impartial manner.

“It is most unfortunate that a section of the media and outsiders are trying hard to misinterpret the entire episode. No eviction drive is being carried out. No settlement place will be acquired for the airport. There are about 1,200 permanent and 500 casual workers in Cachar district’s Doloo TE. Moreover, 170 workers have already received their due payments. All pending payments will soon be cleared. There is nothing to worry about. Around Rs. 2. 37 crore has been transferred to the workers,” informed Dr Roy.

Later, Dr Roy also spoke about the ‘Maoist’ angle behind the labour protest. “We will never term them as Maoists. We stand for the cause of these labourers. We are sympathetic towards them. We have taken care of everything. Only 2,500 bighas of land are being used for the airport. The rest of the land will be used for planting more trees. The management of Doloo TE has given its consent to the district administration regarding this. The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was also signed by all stakeholders. But unfortunately, a handful of outsiders and a section of the media are spreading rumours and misinformation,” quipped Silchar MP.
