GUWAHATI, Dec 23: The State Innovation and Transformation Aayog (SITA), government of Assam and Directorate of Research (Veterinary), Assam Agricultural University (AAU), Khanapara, organised an awareness-cum-input distribution program on Monday at the Bongsor-Gandhmow cluster in the Sualkuchi area of Kamrup district.
The event was led by Dr Mihir Sarma, principal investigator of the Samriddhi Poultry Phase-II project, who provided a detailed overview of the initiative.
Addressing the gathering, vice-chairman of SITA, Narayan Chandra Borkataky, emphasised the importance of sustained efforts in farming and prudent savings for the future expansion of poultry businesses.
He also encouraged farmers to enhance their skills through training programs offered by Assam Agricultural University (AAU), Khanapara. Co-vice chairman of SITA, Dhruba Prasad Baishya, highlighted the potential of poultry farming in promoting self-employment and boosting egg production.
He underscored how increased egg production can improve family nutrition and strengthen household economies. Dr Probodh Borah, director of Research (Veterinary) at AAU, Khanapara, urged farmers to adopt scientific poultry rearing practices to achieve self-employment and empower women in the community.
The program concluded with the inauguration of two new poultry units by vice-chairman Narayan Chandra Borkataky. The event was also attended by Dr Rafiqul Islam, assistant professor of Poultry Science, Dr Sadananda Payeng, assistant professor of Extension Education, officials from SITA, and beneficiaries, marking a successful culmination of the initiative.
