SIVASAGAR, Jan 13: In alignment with the central government’s commitment to cow protection through the Rashtriya Gokul Mission, nine go-palaks (cow rearers) from the state, including Anirban Dutta from Sivasagar, have been invited as guests for the Republic Day parade in New Delhi.
Anirban Dutta, a young small tea grower from the Central Market area of Sivasagar town, shared that his entry into cow rearing happened by accident. Initially seeking cow dung for his tea garden as bio-manure due to the crisis caused by chemical manure, Anirban faced reluctance from nearby villages to provide cow dung. Consequently, he decided to purchase cows, starting with five in 2012, including a bull.
Presently, Anirban manages a farm with 30 cows, including 18 milching cows, heifers, and a large Haryana Bull (Shahiwal) acquired through auction from the Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry. His farm produces 120 to 150 liters of milk daily, allowing him to provide fresh milk to customers. In addition to being a small tea grower, Anirban has created job opportunities for nine families. His family also runs a well-known grocery shop in the Central Market.
Expressing happiness about the invitation to the Republic Day parade, Anirban encourages Assamese youths to take up cow rearing seriously, envisioning self-sufficiency in milk production for the state.
