Sivasagar to observe Dr Hazarika’s death anniversary, Ekta run

SIVASAGAR, Nov 3: The Sivasagar district administration is gearing up to observe the death anniversary of Dr Bhupen Hazarika on November 5 with a grand memorial event at Boarding Field, where over five thousand people are expected to gather and sing his immortal song “Manuhe manuhar babe.” Eminent cultural personalities will be felicitated on the occasion by the district administration.

On November 7, the administration will organise the Rashtriya Ekta Divas Run from the bank of the historic Sivasagar Borpukhuri to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Arjun awardee Bhogeswar Baruah will be felicitated at a meeting to be held at the Yuva Dal auditorium. An extempore speech competition for school students from classes VIII to X will also be organised. Former Thowra MLA Kushal Duwori will inaugurate the event on behalf of Guardian Minister Dr Manoj Pegu.

During a preparatory meeting held at Sukapha Bhawan, Samiran Bora, DDC, Sivasagar urged the media fraternity to attend the programmes with their families and extend support to make the events successful. The meeting was attended by ADCs Gauripriya Devi and Likumony Bora, Assistant Commissioner Subhajit Khound, District Sports Officer Sanjay Upadhyay and several media representatives.
