SIVASAGAR, July 24: The sixth full-fledged executive meeting of Asom Sahitya Sabha was held in Sivasagar Yuva Dal Auditorium on Sunday amidst much enthusiasm as there was no sitting during the Covid-19 induced lean period. The meeting was presided over by its present president, Kula Saikia who was accompanied on the dais by the vice president, Mrinalinee Devi; Sahityacharjya Dr Nahendra Padun, and Sabha principal secretary Jadov Sarma. The meeting adopted a number of resolutions. The next session of Asom Sahitya Sabha will be held in Narayanpur from Jan 31 to Feb 4, 2023.The election process for the next president, vice president, and secretary has begun with the formation of the Justice Biplob Kumar Sarmah Election Committee. The names of the next president, vice president, and principal secretary will be declared in the 7th executive meeting to be held in November next.
President Kula Saikia urged the district units to submit lists of active primary units of the Sabha. Only active units will have a voting right in the next election to the highest posts.
A section of delegates raised financial anomalies allegedly committed by former principal secretary Jagadish Patgiri. Another section raised a financial scam allegedly done by some while repairing the Dibrugarh office of the Sabha by opening false accounts. The president asked them to submit documents to the regional secretary Dr Santanu Lahkar. The Sabha also decided to communicate with the government to press for making all the court releases and verdicts in Assam in Assamese language.
Earlier, the Sabha flag was hoisted by Kuladhar Saikia and smriti tarpan was done by Mrinalinee Devi and Jadov Sarma. The ‘Sira senehi mur bhasa janani’, the Sabha title song was presented by children of various ethnic groups in Sivasagar in the beginning of the meeting. Juga Gogoi, president, Sivasagar Jila Sahitya Sabha, delivered the welcome address while Dr Nahendra Padun and Kamaljyoti Gogoi, inspector of schools and a cultural worker paid tributes to the former president of Jila Sabha, Dilip Kr Buragohain. Three books – The Souvenir of the Reception Committee edited by Dr Jivamoni Nath, Smriti Baibov written by Dr Girish Handique, and Paribartan, written by Somesh Deka were released during the session-Santosh Dutta, secretary, Sivasagar Jila Sahitya Sabha informed.
