NAGAON, July 31: As part of the Poshan Abhiyan initiative, the Department of Women and Child Development, in collaboration with the District Social Welfare Office and Nagaon district administration, organised a smartphone distribution ceremony for Anganwadi workers at the Nagaon Cultural Complex on Thursday.
According to an official statement, Nagaon Deputy Commissioner Devashish Sarma inaugurated the event and lauded the role of Anganwadi workers in maternal and child care and in the implementation of various welfare schemes.

He encouraged the workers to use the smartphones responsibly to enhance service delivery.
Local MLA Rupak Sarma, who attended the function as the guest of honour, commended the Assam Government’s efforts to equip Anganwadi workers with smartphones, describing them as essential tools in the present-day digital context.
He also acknowledged the workers’ continued commitment to the welfare of infants, young children, and pregnant women.
During the programme, 20 Anganwadi workers from Khagarijan, Dalanghat, Nagaon Urban, and Pakhimoria Integrated Child Development Project (ICDP) offices were handed smartphones by the MLA and the Deputy Commissioner.
The official statement further informed that a total of 4,003 Anganwadi workers across the district will receive smartphones over the next seven days.
The event also featured the distribution of assistive devices such as free wheelchairs, hearing aids, and smart canes to differently-abled beneficiaries.
Other dignitaries present included Additional Deputy Commissioner Debahuti Bora, District Social Welfare Officer Bholanath Pegu, and officials from the district administration and social welfare department.
