SMSS submits memo, demands 15% reservation for local students

MARGHERITA, July 26: Satra Mukti Sangram Samity (SMSS), an umbrella organisation of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samity on Monday submitted a memorandum to Palash Rajkumar Ahom, ADC (i/c) Margherita Administration (Civil) regarding Ledo ITI where in the name of admission excess fees is taken from the students who come from far flung areas of Margherita sub-division and other place to study at Ledo ITI.
Prasad Bhattacharjee, assistant secretary of Satra Mukti Sangram Samity, Tinsukia district committee, Nipon Gogoi, president of and Paragjyoti Barauh, member of Satra Mukti Sangram Samity, Margherita regional committee were present during the submission of memorandum.
Pappu Dutta, working president of Satra Mukti Sangram Samity central committee said, “After several agitation by SMSS, Ledo ITI has been established but now in the name of admission, excess fees is taken from the students which is very unfortunate and shameful as in development, education is the first priority and without education a nation cannot get developed.”
Pappu Dutta further added, “At Ledo ITI, admission should be free of cost and 15% seats should be reserved for local students of poverty level to get free education and if our demand gets delayed than in the coming Satra Mukti Sangram Samity, we shall organise a democratic agitation programme with the cooperation of students at Margherita region.”
