KOKRAJHAR, Dec 18: The Special Task Force (STF) and Police have apprehended eight suspected jihadists allegedly linked to the banned militant group Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen (J-ul-M) in Lower Assam’s Dhubri and Kokrajhar districts on Wednesday.
According to source, four individuals were taken into custody from Namapara in Joypur of Kokrajhar district, while four others were apprehended from Khuli Gaon under Bilasiprara police station in Dhubri district.
The eight suspects were taken to Guwahati for further interrogation. The arrests are believed to be part of ongoing efforts to dismantle networks associated with extremist groups in the region. “Getting input about the movement of the suspected persons from the area, the STF and Assam Police jointly carried out search operation in the wee hours this morning, and accordingly able to apprehend the persons from the districts of Kokrajhar and Dhubri of the state of Assam”, said a senior police official. More details are awaited as the investigation is on.
