Dibrugarh Police seize 348 grams of suspected heroin

DIBRUGARH, Sept 22: In a significant drug seizure operation, Dibrugarh Police arrested three Naga women in the Joypur area of Dibrugarh district, confiscating 348 grams of suspected heroin worth approximately Rs 1.5 crore.

The trio, who had allegedly transported the contraband from Dimapur to Arunachal Pradesh via Duliajan, were intercepted by Joypur Police. Upon inspection, the police discovered 348 grams of suspected heroin concealed within 29 soap cases in their possession.

A police spokesperson explained, “They were traveling in a vehicle with registration number AS-06AJ5275 while en route to Arunachal Pradesh. We received a tip-off regarding their movements and initiated an operation under the jurisdiction of Joypur Police Station. We detained three female drug peddlers and seized suspected heroin from them.”

Dibrugarh Police shared the news on their official social media account, stating, “A team from Joypur Police Station, led by the Officer-in-Charge of Joypur and the Deputy Superintendent of Police from Namrup, recovered 29 soap cases containing approximately 348 grams of suspected heroin and arrested four drug dealers. The vehicle used for transportation has also been seized.”

The individuals were allegedly trafficking the narcotics to Arunachal Pradesh for distribution within the state. The car used for this purpose was also impounded by the Assam Police. The driver of the vehicle, in addition to the three women from Arunachal Pradesh, was taken into custody by the authorities in connection with the case.

A case has been registered at the Joypur Police Station in Dibrugarh district in connection with the seizure of the heroin consignment.

“We have initiated our investigation, and the three women are currently in police custody. At this stage, we cannot provide further details about the case,” stated a police official.
