During the spot interrogation, the STF team conducted a search operation at the accused person’s residence in Ahom Gaon, Guwahati. They discovered bundles of photostated Indian currency notes in 500 denominations and bundles of blank white papers resembling Indian currency notes of the same denomination. It has been revealed that the accused operates as a cheater, luring people by offering double the amount of FICN in exchange for genuine Indian currency notes. Once individuals approach him for the exchange, he deceives them and steals their original currency notes. The investigation further indicates that the accused has been involved in this illicit business for a significant period and has associates within his criminal network.

A case has been registered at the STF Police Station under Case no 05/2023, invoking sections 120(B)/489(A)/489(C)/489(D) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Md Sahanoor Islam has been arrested in connection with the case. Additionally, the authorities seized a Maruti Brezza vehicle with registration number AS 01 EK 5644, four mobile phones, and a pistol-shaped lighter from the possession of the accused.

Further investigations are underway to identify and apprehend the co-accused individuals involved in the fake currency racket. The STF’s successful operation highlights their dedication to combating illegal activities and maintaining law and order in the region.
