KOKRAJHAR, Sept 18: The Science, Technology, and Innovation Hub (STIHub) at CIT Kokrajhar, funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, has conducted a training programme on portable and manual eri yarn spinning machines to boost the silk and handloom sector in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).
The initiative, led by Dr Pranav Kumar Singh (PI) and Dr Abhijit Padun (Co-PI), aimed at creating value addition in the silk sector by enabling a smooth transition from cocoon to yarn spinning.

The organisers said the programme was designed to align with regional sericulture development goals while empowering women weavers with modern skills and tools to enhance self-reliance and entrepreneurship.
State Awardee Dhirashree Boro Brahma, who attended as resource person, urged the women participants to weave not only fabric but also a future of economic independence, cultural pride, and sustainable livelihoods. The organisers said the initiative will contribute to making BTR a hub of silk and handloom where traditional craftsmanship integrates with technology and innovation.
