Student dies during picnic at Baghmora, Jorhat

JORHAT, Jan 2: A tragic incident at Baghmora on the banks of the Brahmaputra has shaken the town of Jorhat. According to reports, a college-going student met with an untimely death on Friday while on a picnic at the Baghmora picnic spot.

The deceased student has been identified as Pragya Shri Phukan from Bangalpukhuri, Jorhat.

It is reported that a group from Jorhat had gone on a picnic today. During the outing, the student accidentally fell into a nearby water body at the picnic site under unknown circumstances. She was rescued and immediately taken to Jorhat Medical College Hospital, but doctors declared her dead.

It is noteworthy that earlier too, several people have lost their lives after boats capsized at the same picnic spot. Local residents have alleged that the picnic spot continues to operate without any proper safety arrangements. Union Minister of State (MoS) for Textiles and External Affairs Pabitra Margherita visited JMCH and expressed grief at the death of the young girl, the only child of her parents.
